The Pandemic spares no one, but hit the poor the hardest. In St. Paul’s Parish, Pallel, under the Diocese of Imphal, there are 2252 members spread across 18 Villages belonging Lamkang, Moyon, Monsang, Chothe and Marings tribes. In all these villages, the poor outnumbers the rich. In a classic case of making good use of the Social Media, a general request was sent out in the Parish WhatsApp group for help so that we could reach out to the poorest of the poor. The response was heartening, with everyone chipping in with amounts within their means, and from a zero balance fund, the Parish suddenly had Rs. 2,57,000/- at its disposal for charity. The unseen certainly was behind every donor, perhaps inspiring them to reach out - the generosity extended was simply touching.

With resources now in hand, the Parish Priests, Assistant Parish Priests, Sisters, Parish Pastoral Council Members, Parish Congress Members, Catechists, Parish Youths and Women Society became emboldened. The relief work thus began on 12th of June 2020 with prayers of gratitude and seeking God’s protection. Items selected were among those most basic to human requirements. On the first day itself, the Relief team covered 15 villages, and the remaining three covered on the following day. Apart from own villages within the Parish, reliefs were also extended to quarantine centers, widows, old and needy across religion. It was really heartwarming to see the love sharing within the community. Miracle happens because of Prayer, concern and generous heart. The hardships notwithstanding, the spontaneous flow of humanity was overwhelming, as the Bible says. “Bear with one another’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ” (Gal 6:2). The effort to help is now ongoing
