Packed Convention Hall at the Catholic School, Canchipur, Imphal

The fourth edition of Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) North East, was co-hosted by North East Regional Youth Commission (NERYC) and the Manipur Catholic Youth Organisation (MCYO) from October 22 to 26 at the Catholic School, Canchipur, Imphal, which was attended by Catholic youths from Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Tripura, and the host, Manipur. The colourful Convention was declared opened by Most Rev. Dominic Lumon, Archbishop of Imphal, while Bishop George Palliparambil, Chairman, North Eastern Regional Youth Commission, concluded the event with the lowering of NERYC-ICYM NE flag. Though the Convention was somewhat disrupted by a strong thunder storm on the third day, uprooting a portion of the main Convention hall, the indomitable spirit of the youth refused to give in, and went ahead with the glittering programmes, that included showcasing of North East’s rich culture and tradition.

Key take away from the Convention were, the key note addresses by renowned dignitaries on youth related topics, path breaking sessions on topics such as Movements formation, Music, Entrepreneurship, Mental Health, Taize Prayer, Love & Relationship and Youth Catechism of the Catholic Church. In all, twenty eight inspiring youths, representing different diocese were given away the Regional Youth Award as a token of recognition for their contributions towards the Church and the community at large.

On the evening of the opening day, a popular Band namely “Traffic Jam” enthralled the participants with an impressive performance of Gospel and Praise and Worship songs. The Band is headed by Jimmy Thang, a renowned Catholic Musician from Churachandpur district of Manipur.
